SCOPE OF POSITION

In this new role, you will lead the development and implementation ofHuman Resources services and programs covering human resource planning, recruitment & selection, compensation & benefits, training & development, performance management, employee relations and health and safety for a growing technology company.  You will have responsibility for addressing specific organization needs, inquiries, and issues on HR policies and procedures, compensation, performance management, employee relations, employee benefits, employment law, disciplinary action, performance improvement plans, incentive/bonus programs, employee terminations, and employee morale. You will take a lead role in developing and advocating an employer brand and look for innovative ways to attract and retain talent.  You will be relied on to provide information and recommendations that are regularly used in the management decision making process, therefore the ability to work effectively with all levels of management and employees is key.  You will ensure clear, consistent, fair, and timely delivery of HR policies, programs, systems and procedures.  You are energetic, resourceful and enjoy a challenge and are prepared to roll your sleeves to get the job done. 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drives operational excellence in corporate HR initiatives, processes and practices in the company. Will be responsible for the execution of major initiatives that will require project management and functional expertise in most or all HR areas.
  • Provides client focused solutions that will include talent acquisition, professional and leadership development, total compensation, employee advocacy and organizational effectiveness (assessment, resource management, rewards and recognition).
  • Provides guidance and interpretation to department managers and employees on employment policies, practices and procedures.
  • In conjunction with the leadership team develop a comprehensive HR strategic plan to meet the needs of a growing business.
  • Leads HR audits to ensure compliance with documentation, policies, procedures, and regulations. 
  • Provides reports to management regarding HR activity as required through report preparation and data analysis.
  • Lead the overall planning and implementation for corporate talent acquisition activities to maximize candidate pipeline, including designing, developing and implementing of a compelling company recruitment brand. Ensure all Talent programs and processes are aligned and integrated with business objectives.
  • Represent, network, research, and build Covarity's Talent Management competitive advantage within the industry through best practice application, and through advocating an employer brand of choice at industry and recruitment events, trade shows and speaking engagements.
  • Train, coach, mentor and support managers to ensure the development of position profiles for all recruiting needs, and build effective capability in attracting and evaluating high performance candidates.
  • Manage all benefits (Canadian and US) and compensation programs. Accountable for Payroll.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for all levels of the organization, from new hire orientation to performance management.
  • Understands and has a working knowledge of employment legislation and applies that knowledge to situations as they arise. Acts as a resource for employees and managers.
  • Develop and maintain the health and safety program and compliance.
  • Administer human resource policies, ensuring clear, consistent, fair and timely delivery of HR policies, programs, systems and procedures.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced, ever-changing environment
  • Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgment is essential
  • Organizational and planning skills, including ability to prioritize work, handle multiple tasks simultaneously and set goals while maintaining flexibility to reassess and prioritize goals
  • Creative and innovative approach to problem solving
  • Excellent time management & multi-tasking skills
  • Must be able to effectively interact with people at all levels of the organization
  • Strong coaching, mentoring and facilitation skills
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation within North America
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Willing and able to travel as required

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources or related discipline
  • Minimum 5 - 7 years experience in human resources at the professional / management level
  • Preference for HR experience in all HR functional areas, a strong emphasis in talent attraction and management preferred
  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation is preferred (or working towards)
